Interactive Satellite Map of the Holy Land for The Pocket PC

This program installs on your hard drive and is basically a small website that runs locally on your computer. It is centered around a satellite map of the Holy Land which is annotated with 135 place names.
The program is similar to the on for the PC on this website, except for no automatic scrolling of the map and simpler menus. The map is a 2400 pixel wide image with linked place names and an associated image map. This is the largest size image practical on the Pocket PC that I use because of limitations in processor power.
The main map takes about 10 seconds to load on my Pocket PC which has a QVGA resolution screen with Windows Mobile 3 SE operating system. The main screen on startup is shown below. The upper frame of the screen contains a compressed image of the entire 2400 pixel wide satellite map in the default view mode. Clicking on the <View> menu item at the bottom of the page and selecting <Layout>, <Desktop> will expand the image to its full 2400 pixel width.

The upper frame of the startup screen will then contain a scrollable 2400 pixel wide image with the names on the image being linked to pages with photos and descriptions of the subject places.
The lower frame has a list of placenames that are also linked to pages with images and descriptions of the places. Clicking on "MAPVIEW" removes the lower frame and the map image fills the (small) screen, still scrollable (above, right). Clicking on "LISTVIEW" removes the upper frame and makes the vertically scrollable list full screen (below, left). The listview is by far the fastest way to view the place descriptions and photos.

Clicking on a placename in the listview will display a place page as above, right. The scripture references are linked to a public domain King James Version of The Holy Bible that is included with this program. Clicking on a scripture reference will display a page of the bible as shown, below with the scripture reference at the top of the page.
A link to the complete Bible is included on the HELP page.
The program is downloadable in two different forms. The first is HLPPC.exe. This version will automatically install the program on your Pocket PC after you click on it , make an "ActiveSync" connection from your PC to your PPC, and grant permission to install.
The second format is for experienced users who don't wish to use an install program and know how to use their file system. It is as a ZIP archive, HLPPC.zip. This may be installed using WinZip or other software into the folder of your choice with the "Use Folder Names" option selected. Then you may copy the folder to the storage card on your Pocket PC and create a shortcut to the file, "Sat.htm" in your PPC start menu.
The program is copyrighted freeware and may be distributed freely , but may not be sold or included in any package for which a fee is charged.
The images in the program are used with the kind permission of Todd Bolen, http://www.bibleplaces.com . These images may not be removed from this program and used for other puposes without the permission of Bible Places.com.
The Bible Verses are from the public domain King James Version of The Holy Bible that has been reformatted to fit the QVGA screen of the Pocket PC
Thirty place descriptions are used by permission of Broadman and Holman Publishing Group. Holman Bible Dictionary - Used by Permission. B&H Publishing Group, Nashville, TN. Descriptions of (30 Bible places) taken from, "The Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary," by Chad Brand, Charles W. Draper and Archie England. ©2003.
Several place descriptions are used with permission of http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.com .
The remaining place descriptions were taken from public domain and other sources which provide automatic approval for non-commercial use.
As always, the program is not guaranteed to work on your particular Pocket PC. It has been tested on Windows Mobile 3 SE operating system on a PPC with a QVGA screen (320x240 pixels).
